Transformers are built to last. One would expect them to remain active and operational for long periods of time.
There are plenty of places where a transformer can experience a failure; strong summer or winter storms, natural disasters, weathering , cold and heat can affect some areas of a transformer very easily leading to failure and a leak or spill can occur.
When repairs are untenable, and a pole or pad mounted transformer needs to be replaced, is when containment becomes a major factor. Leaking transformers are going to be losing oil based liquids (dielectric fluids). Keeping leaks contained can be as simple as having the right equipment on hand in order to keep the spill from spreading upon removal and transportation back to the repair facility.
As happens with all equipment that is beyond immediate repair, replacement becomes the only option. As such the need to not only contain the leak, but the transformer as a whole, will become more important. It is here that Transformer Bag Spill Kits from MBT become essential.
